Xbox 360 Blu-Ray Drive

In a recent interview, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer states that the Xbox 360 Blu Ray drive is on the way. This won't be an internal drive on the console, but will be an add-on external drive. Mr. Ballmer states, and I quote, "... you'll be able to get Blu-ray drives as accessories."

So there it is folks, right from the horses mouth. Though he didn't mention any release date or availability plans of any sort, you can bet we'll be seeing a Blu-Ray add-on drive at some point.

So, does that remove one of the PS3 selling points? Or is it negated by the fact that this will be an add-on accessory? I think the price will be the determining factor. Regardless, new options are always a good thing.

Update: Xbox live's Major Nelson says Ballmer was talking about PC accessories. Heh. Yeah. I don't think so. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
