Rainbow Six: Vegas 2… Just as good as the first!

rainbow_six_vegas

Well, any fan of the Rainbow Six series will be happy to know that this game picks up right where the first Vegas left off. Technically speaking, Vegas 2 is happening in parallel with the first. While the Vegas One team is searching for Irena in Mexico and then Vegas you are searching for the other Terrorists associated with Irena in different parts of Vegas. The Ubisoft Montreal Team has woven a good web to tie these two games together.

The gameplay is almost exactly the same as the first incarnation, with the exception of a RUN button located at the Left Button position and the AI seems to be much better than the first. The XP has been tweaked and I like that the Co-Op games share the XP with the other players.

Overall, I am very happy with this game, the Campaign is awesome, the Terrorist Hunt is better than before and the Multi-Player seems to be just as good as the first time around!

Call of Duty 4 - New Maps Information

call of duty 4 prestige mode cod4Well I’m sure you hardcore Call of Duty 4 fans are aware that the new maps are on their way. We still have yet to get a confirmed release date of anything except sometime in spring. I have heard a date of April 3rd, but have yet to find anything to confirm this. So we just have to figure, sometime in spring.
The map-pack that we will be able to download consists of 4 maps. They are going for a range of play from close quarters to one massive out door map. The names of each map are, Chinatown, Creek, Broadcast and Killhouse. Chinatown is an old map that has been redone and updated from CoD2. Creek is a massive outdoor map that will be ideal for those snipers out there. Broadcast consists of the TV station section of the campaign of CoD4 and last Killhouse is a close and personal map sure to get your blood boiling!
Check out all the maps and other aspect of the up coming downloads at all of these sights, TeamXbox, IGN and Gamespy.
Also expect to dish out 800 Microsoft points to down load the maps.

Thanks again for reading

call of duty 4 prestige mode cod4
Well the maps are getting a little closer. Take a look at this sneak peek of China town, a close quarters map that is sure to get your blood pumping. Other maps that will be on the Map-pack also are Broadcast and Creek . We are still looking for the DLC to be available in spring, so that is a 3-month window, but I am definitely excited.

Also in the video they mention that there will be 3 maps to down load. I have emailed and confirmed with Robert Bowling that there will be 4 maps to download, as soon as I have the title of this map, you will also!

So take a look and let us know what you think.

Frontlines: Fuel of Bad Servers

frontlines

I have completely enjoyed the single player Campaign of Frontlines but the Multi-Player has not lived up to the billing. I have sat in KAOS servers for over an hour “warming up” waiting for the requisite 24 players to show up to start the match, but it has only started 1 time out of about 20 tries. Also, I have given the smaller games a shot, but have not finished a single MP game.

I am very happy with the Campaign, lots of weapons, decent AI and challenging levels, but I bought this game for the MP and so far it has not lived up to ANY advanced billing. If this game follows suit with other Online games there should be some kind of patch in the works for the current MP system, and until then I will be working on clearing all the achievements in the Single Player portion of the game.

I am checking with the games developers almost every day and trying to get some kind of update on the situation and as soon as I do, I will post it up here.

Army of Two…… Xbox 360 Co-op at it’s Best!

army_of_two

When I first started playing this game it felt like other single player campaigns with AI buddies helping you out, but about 1/3 of the way through the Missions I got a good feel for the Aggro Meter and began using my Partner and his abilities to great advantage. Like other squad based games such as G.R.A.W. and Rainbow Six you can order your teammates to hold, advance and regroup just as Army of Two, but this game takes it to one more level. You can issue regroup, hold and advance commands each in two ways. Every command has a defensive and offensive Posture.

When you instruct your teammate to Hold in a defensive posture, he will protect himself (defense) and when you tell him to Hold in an agressive (offensive) Posture he will start spraying the enemy with fire, he will pin them down and draw their attention, once his Aggro meter spikes, you become virtually invisible, because all their attention is on him. This allows you to Flank their position and smash them from the side or from behind. When you get used to using it the game becomes very cool.

Graphics and gameplay take a little getting use to for the First Person Shooter Crowd. This entire game is in Third Person like a Gears of War or G.R.A.W. Since we have mentioned Gears of War here I cannot help but parallel Army of Two and Gears of War. The way the World is displayed in Army is very reminiscent of Gears, albeit, this game takes place on Earth is a current time frame. You take cover and vault over cover the exact same way Gears of War worked, heck it even uses the SAME sound effects when you kill all the enemies in an area, and gunplay feels exactly the same. Although this game’s graphics look a lot like Gears, the story and characters make it distinctly Army of Two.

Gameplay is good but they could have added a few more options to the characters abilities, like being able to RUN or JUMP. Call me crazy but these two abilities are staples in Today’s games, period! Thankfully, your character is always in a brisk walk almost run speed so the game isn’t too slow. Second, the gun aim takes a few missions to actually get used to. Your character is in Third person all the time but when close to cover you cannot seem to swing your firing arc around fast enough to hit a bad guy that is rushing around the cover that you are behind. When this happens you are almost required to pull back from cover and move away from the attacker in order to put enough room between him and you so you can track him with your gun. You get used to this pretty fast. The only real complaint that I have about the game is the Melee Attack. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, and when it doesn’t you usually get Smashed by the guy you just tried to melee and end up needing a Medic (Thank you Sheik-This guy got his Medic achievement after playing with me for about an hour!). The melee really needs help, and on the same melee front you can attack your foe with a car door or a riot shield. One smash from the riot shield or door and the enemy is dead but this also has the same issue as the regular melee attack, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. The only real problem is that there are achievements for melee and riot shield kills so you waste time going for these when you could easily have shot the guy, and 50% of the time your character never does the melee move while you smash the Right Trigger.

Overall I like this game and once the learning curve is completed it is very fluid and worth your time to play. Gameplay is fast and also requires the use of your teammate and smart commands to infiltrate around or behind enemies then crack them in the back of the head with a shotty or a LMG.

CoD 4 - Host Migration

cod_4

‘Hi there, I just wanted to comment on the host migration portion of the patch that was released last week. I am aware that the migration helps with keeping players together, the only real problem I see here, is that since this patch, I play in a great many games with a poor signal. There is no doubt that the migration helps in the event of a host leaving, but it has greatly ruined my ability to host games.
One of my other online buddies has an enterprise level connection dedicated to his 360 just as I do and has experienced the same issues as me.
Lastly, our group of close players plays CoD4 every night and the guy that keeps getting host is located in San Diego, working on a DSL connection with 1.3 mb download and a 384 kb upload, now I know this upload is NOT sufficient for 12 player games yet he gets host over me (Fractional T1 - Dedicated 784 kb ul and 1.5 mb dl simultaneously) and another one of my buddies who pays for an enterprise level Cable connection that provides 10 mb dl and 1.0 mb upload. In every instance over the last 4 months since the game has been out either him or I have provided hosting for 12 players and a lag free environment, and since the update, we never get host, the smaller bandwidth DSL subscribers seem to rule the hosting scene in CoD4 now!

Call of Duty 4 - new update results

call of duty 4 prestige mode cod4
Well it has been a few days since the updates have been up and a lot of feedback has started to stream into Infinity Ward. Take a look at Robert Bowling’s blog to find out what they are aware of and what they are working on to fix. Also at the end of the Blog, Robert mensions that they may be adding one more map to the Map-Pack of 3 of the downloads that will be avaiable some time in spring. So we may have 4 maps to play…cool.
