Xbox 360 Warranty Extended to 3 Years For Red Ring Failures

Microsoft has extended the warranty on all Xbox 360 consoles.
The new warranty covers new and previously purchased Xbox 360s for three years, for the three flashing red light error only.
So, if you get a red ring of death (a.k.a. RROD, three red lights, circle of doom, etc.) hardware error, you’re covered. If you have a DVD Drive fail, GPU overheat, or other problem the extended warranty does NOT cover it. The one year warranty would apply.
However, the RROD has been a large percentage of failures, so this is better than nothing. (I have had 4 console failures with only one of them being a Red Ring issue.)
So, if you have a Red Ring error failure, don’t try to fix it, don’t open the box. Send it back for free repair.

Here is the new warranty FAQ : Xbox 360 New Warranty FAQ
And finally an open letter from Microsoft’s Peter Moore.

If Best Buy refuses to honor a warranty you purchased (talk to a manager), then they owe you the warranty price back.

apparantly if you have already opened your xbox it is now void and they probally will refuse it, they tend to only fix it if the microsoft sicker is still intacked…

This is the 3rd console we have gone through…first purchased Christmas 2006 and was returned to Circut City after 60 days with the ROD….the replacement lasted for less than 30 days and had to return it again. The 3rd one has lasted from Feb. 2007 until today….January 17, 2008. It has the 3 red rings of death….I am with all others…some hungry lawyer needs to bring legal action, say a class action lawsuit….I would support it…If this was a car, would people be so kind? sounds like this should be covered under the lemon laws…….

I bought X Box 360 for my son for X Mas 2006, it was probably one of the best X mas mornings of his life. When he realized what it was his eyes started to well up an his lip started to quiver.
Fast forward to X mas 2007. I bought my son some new games as well as guitar hero 3 and after 2 songs it started to freeze up. After numerous times trying to restart with different games we knew it was toast with the red ring of death. I contacted Best Buy where I bought it because I purchased their plan so I just assumed they would replace it. They declined to even honour the plan citing that microsoft wanted to deal with this specific issue themselves. My kids X mas is ruined and no one seems to give a &^%. Shame on you Bill Gates for dropping the ball on this one.
