Xbox 360 Warranty Extended to 3 Years For Red Ring Failures

Microsoft has extended the warranty on all Xbox 360 consoles.
The new warranty covers new and previously purchased Xbox 360s for three years, for the three flashing red light error only.
So, if you get a red ring of death (a.k.a. RROD, three red lights, circle of doom, etc.) hardware error, you're covered. If you have a DVD Drive fail, GPU overheat, or other problem the extended warranty does NOT cover it. The one year warranty would apply.
However, the RROD has been a large percentage of failures, so this is better than nothing. (I have had 4 console failures with only one of them being a Red Ring issue.)
So, if you have a Red Ring error failure, don't try to fix it, don't open the box. Send it back for free repair.

And finally an open letter from Microsoft's Peter Moore.

i agree with what drtywrm said, game stop really screwed my son over on the deal. he traded (what i could have sold on ebay for well over 1000$) worth of ps2 stuff for a referb 360 that is broke now.
BTW i tried the wrapping in a towel fix for the 360 that was posted somewhere. it worked. strange though the red lights come back as soon as i completely remove the towel. he has been playing it with a towel under and covering one side of it for a week now. no red lights but as soon as i completely remove the towel the red lights come back. the console doesnt feel like its getting any warmer than normal and it doesnt shut down for overheating.
Is not fair, I have bouth two xbox360 already because the first one had this three ring of death problem now after a year this other one is having the same problem.
what a joke I can not be buying consoles over and over.
Microsoft should pick up all the failure ones with this kind of problems and replaced them all with new consoles.
GOT THE RING OF DEATH LAST WEEK UNPLUGGED IT ALL STARTED AGAIN SWITCHED IT ON AND IT WAS FINE AGAIN..UNTILL I WAS TOLD IT WOULD DO IT AGAIN..YES THEY WERE RIGHT..JUST WAITING FOR THEM TO PICK IT UP TO FIX IT..GUTTED..
I got the ring of death on monday, after exactly a year of use, called up MS tech support, they said that they will send a replacement over, just got it and plugged it in and everthings works fine, i was pretty impressed that MS actually sent it to me within 48 hours.
Just a FYI: the replacement also gets the 3 yr extended warranty for the red ring of death.
Ive sent mine away (had to provide my own box)it was quite simple really. However Im wondering if it will ever come back? If I can check if microsoft have got it and how long is left? and will it be a new machine or just a repaired one?
Somoene help me please!
My Xbox got the three lights. It worked for a bit after i removed all the cords but tried to play it after a few days and the only thing that came on was the red lights. tried to return the xbox to the store and they told me no. I think Micro soft should should make arrangement for stores to do this. Since it is junk. I switch from play station to xbox because i thought it was better but if anyone asks stick with play station.
I have had my Xbox 360 since a couple months after it first came out, so thats over 2years. I have never had a problem with it untill the last couple of days where it kept on freezing in game play and now the red lights have come up. does the new warrenty include my 360 or not?
So I live in Canada and my parents just bought me the Xbox 360. It was working fine.. Got to level 2 in halo 3… Next morning my 360 could read DVD’s but not video games. So i called that 1800 number and they said i should send it in for repairs and stuff. Maaaan. Broken in less then 24 hrs. That a record? 5 days later i tried it again and NOW the 3 red lights show up.WHY?!?!?!?!?!??!!!!!!
