Xbox 360 Warranty Extended to 3 Years For Red Ring Failures

360 new warranty 3 years
Microsoft has extended the warranty on all Xbox 360 consoles.

The new warranty covers new and previously purchased Xbox 360s for three years, for the three flashing red light error only.

So, if you get a red ring of death (a.k.a. RROD, three red lights, circle of doom, etc.) hardware error, you’re covered. If you have a DVD Drive fail, GPU overheat, or other problem the extended warranty does NOT cover it. The one year warranty would apply.

However, the RROD has been a large percentage of failures, so this is better than nothing. (I have had 4 console failures with only one of them being a Red Ring issue.)

So, if you have a Red Ring error failure, don’t try to fix it, don’t open the box. Send it back for free repair.

And finally an open letter from Microsoft’s Peter Moore.

Got the 3 red lights last night. Considering sending it, do you need your original packinging or just the machine?

I first got the 3 rings on the day halo 3 came out and i got really.. mad at my 360. After a while i turned on the xbox again and it worked, but then when i put halo 3 in it paused. I turned it off and on again and no problems. The next day i turned it on and the 3 rings came on again. I left the game running for a bit and turned it on again and it worked, but since yesterday i’ve had no such luck. I think i’ll have to send it in now

Got the RRoD fist time on Sat/then again on Sunday. After removing the power, hdd, and all cables, I unplugged it and reinstalled the wired and hdd. It worked for a while then on Monday, and Tuesday and most of the day Wednesday, It kept freezing in Halo3, and I noticed this strange noise and a problem with the controllers…. It can’t seem to find them. Then BAM! it happened again today, and nothing I do can get it back on…. Won’t even load the start up. Called XBOX for repairs, no problem, sending a box and I should have it back within 5 weeks….. Which really sucks. We should be able to bring it to a retailer that will exchange it for a new one…..

My retailer exchanged mine for me, I bought 6/5/07 RRod’d 16/10/07 just a little over 5 months, whilst my bro has had his since launch and it’s still going strong, although he doesn’t have his set to hd!! Hmmm think they shrunk the wrong chip!?!?!?!

is it covered??? said,

i bought a refurb unit from gamestop about 3 months ago and now it has the 3 light ring problem. gamestop says it was only warrantied through them for 30 days and that i needed to call MS. will MS repair this for free eventhough it is a refurb? should i remove the gamestop refurb sticker first before attempting to return it to MS and just not say anything about it being a refurb?

Bought mine about 5 months ago also, and today I got home from work and saw the RRD. It’s funny because I hardly ever played on the 360. I played maybe an hour a day, sometimes three or four days a week. I hadn’t played it in a week when today I had to call MS. The phone call was pretty painless; they said they’d cover the 360 for 3 years and the box was on its way.

Anyone know if the next 360 they send is also covered? I have a feeling I’ll be sending mine in every 6 months or so… after which I’ll be getting something else… or maybe nothing at all. I don’t play games much anymore.

Start buying your consoles from places with no questions asked , return policies. Gamestop sucks and so does Microsoft. The xbox360 playability is superior to PS3 IMO, 360 is a good machine aside from the RRoD
