On the UK Microsoft store (not the xbox.com site) I clicked on gaming -> XBox
and there was mention of free Xbox Live (Silver)…but no explanation of what this, was, what it did, and what the other levels were. A quick google threw up this site…thanks guys!

Actually, MK, the info is still difficult to find and not as clear as it could be at xbox.com. It has definitely been improved and is less ambiguous, however, the answers are not quick and clear as they should be.

I found this information quite easily on Xbox.com on the introduction page:

“There are two levels of service for Xbox LIVE. The Silver level is free and lets you download content from Xbox LIVE Marketplace, chat with friends, and share your gamer profile and achievements with other users. The Gold Level is a paid service with all of the Silver level benefits, plus with the ability to play multiplayer games online against other members of the Xbox LIVE community, create parties and join games with friends, and, if you’re a Netflix member, even watch streaming movies right on your Xbox 360.”

I’d understand if this information was not available in 2006 when this post was published, but there are rather recent comments here. “Much better answer”? “Ridiculous search”? Really?

I’m sorry but the ps3 is more of a entertainment system as well as a Gaming Console, the 360 is just a console really.
Yes the PS3 costs more….
BUT when you have forked out for the wireless adapter, and the yearly xbox live fee you spend more than the cost for PS3.
And people using games as a factor of which console is more superior than the other is just ridiculous as the enjoyment of a game and how good a game is, is purely opinion. But if you like shooting games then yes the 360 is probably the console for you, but if you like a variety e.g. OFFROAD racing games (Motorstorm), fun relaxing games (Little Big Planet), adventure games (Rathet And Clank: Tools Of Destruction, Ratchet And Clank: Quest For Booty, Ratchet And Clank: A Crack In Time) and Racing games (GT) then the Playstation 3 is for you.
Also for a film lover the Playstation 3 would be better as the Blu-Ray drive.
Also for someone who likes to browse the internet for free the Playstation 3 would be better as on the Xbox 360 can’t even browse the internet even though you PAY to get Xbox Live.

Sorry for the extremely long reply but there has been alot of Playstaton 3 bashing going on here using inadequate facts.

LOL you said gold membership so I look at it this way XBOX 360 isn’t 400 dollars looks like a sony wanna be worker making it look more expensive then it is. ok wifi adapter yes that could of been put in but hell I wouldn’t use wireless for my xbox gaming I plug straight into the router and the way I see it you get what you paid for PS3 internet gaming free = sucks xbox live gold you pay for it cause it is alot better and they always upgrading and working on making it even better… 1 fee and you get all the features netfix charging for their services isn’t microsoft it is netflix different company and hell you have to pay for the high speed no matter if you on PS3 or 360 so stop complaining there. They work hard for your online experience and you think they need to do it for free so you can be happy well if they did that then they would go out of buisiness and wouldn’t have xbox live at all. Well you get what you paid for ……. exception to this rule is the PS3 pay a few hundred more and you get a system with the same graphics but wait you get wi fi lol I rather buy a xbox 360 and 50 dollars for a wifi connection then an extra 200 for a system with wifi built in thats online experience sucks….

Okay, I buy a $400 game machine and I think I am set, but wait!!!

There is no built in wireless?@!?!?! Okay, have to buy the xbox wifi adapter (used for $50).

Hey, Netflix instant viewable, cool! But wait!!!!! I need Gold access?!?!?!?

Multiplayer online play, Cool! But Wait!!!! I need Gold access?!?!?!

I have already paid Netflix for memebership, my cable provider for high speed access, AND bought a $400 gaming machine, but microsoft wants MORE!!!!!

I hate microsoft and all of its products.

Oh, and it uses HD-DVD instead of Blue-Ray, so HD movies are quite limited.

The Wii has built in wifi and free multiplayer online play.

Hey, I have both systems and had online for both for a while but i gave up on PS
it just doesnt have the great multiplayer of xbox live. I would have 2 say that PS3 is KA in graphics compared to 360.

umm… Matt W are you high? the xbox 360 is cheaper than the ps3!! and the reason xbox 360 beat out the ps3 is because Sony was retarded and set the price WAY to high! ppl didn’t want to spend that much when xbox and ps3 graphics are the same! so ahh suck a fat one
