Repair Xbox 360 - 3 Red Lights
James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.
If you have this problem try this simple fix:
1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run “Initial Setup” under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.
*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don’t want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

I just got the 3 red lights also…for no apparent reason. I’m just hoping that some rich lawyer’s 360 does the same thing, then they get pissed enough to help us start a lawsuit. Microsoft is probably losing gamers faster than they’re gaining them now. This box is an abomination.

I purchased my xbox in April 2006 and it worked flawlessly for 5 months and just died last week. I got the 3 rings of red bull *!!! The worst part is my roommates just died yesterday!! He bought his in May 06. This is BS!! Now we have no xbox360 in the house and this appears to be a major problem for some time now. It sucks that I have a living room full of games, cables and controllers and no consoles. This sucks I am going to sell this sh* Come on Microsoft, disclose the problem it is obvious you are exchanging 360’s daily. I expect my console back next week, it will be interesting if it has a different serial #.

I got my 360 back in december, and got the 3 rings last night! I am very pissed because now I have to wait 2 weeks to play NBA 2K7! But at least they are repairing it for free. Please if anyone has gotten their system back from repair, tell us how lon it took, and if it runs smoothly now.

Hey guys, got my Xbox 360 three days ago. And while playing doa4 it froze! So I turned the power off, then back on. And then got the three lights.
I played the game for about an hour when I first got it and I had to limit it to
an hour because when I ejected the game it was pretty warm (warm enough not to want to play it anymore, incase something might happen).
I tried all the the unplug and re-connected info. But nothing.
I have contact the supplier and Mircosoft. I will keep you updated.
Next-gen my arse!
