Repair Xbox 360 – 3 Red Lights
James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.
If you have this problem try this simple fix:
1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run "Initial Setup" under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.
*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don't want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

Congratulations on admitting your error Microsoft. “Extending the warranty on all Xbox 360’s for a further 3 years”. A much needed step in the right direction.
Though making it somewhat easier to get a new/refurbished one, this still does’nt solve the problem!
i have had red lights twice but thankfully my xbox 360 still works but i am unhappy the way micro soft so i urge everyone who reads this message to get in touch with the news as if this goes public more then microsoft will be forced to fix them for free out of fear of losing customers because just now it is only xbox owners know this but if everyone else did they will know more about the so called trustworthy microsoft company, so i urge all please go further with your complaint to anybody who will listen then when your complaint is heard in mass numbers victory may be given a chance to do her work
I just got the 3RL error after 7 months of having my 360. I just called and they are sending me the box to go back to them next week. This sucks.
Yea, Microsoft should’ve tested the xbox 360 much more extensively, and this wouldn’t have happened. Thousands of people are pissed, and Microsoft deserves to pay a billion for this crap that they did to their gamer customers.

Well i have the 3 red lights for a while know and nothing is goin to make it go away. Thanks to Mircosoft i no longer have something to play and im not goin to take it in for repair and im not goin to buy i new 1 im starting not to like microsft anymore….

They care so little about their consumers that they do not even care enough to make sure a customer who has already had 3 or 4 defective xbox 360s would atleast get 1, brand new working xbox 360 with the latest updates in hardware.

Which is better?
Microsoft talks a lot about Most having a wonderful experience, and they talk a lot about how the satisfaction of the customer is priority 1, but the records show they don’t give a flying (*& about those of us who have spent money on ther test box, the xbox 360.

Not very true. They didnt ask for a receipt when i phoned em for my dead 360 that i have had since launch day. Also lost my receipt btw :P and now is the xbox in the repair center.

I pludged my 360 yesterday and i get 3 flashing lights no piture and no sound, Is this a normal error or one that sounds like can’t be fixed.
