Repair Xbox 360 - 3 Red Lights
James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.
If you have this problem try this simple fix:
1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run “Initial Setup” under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.
*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don’t want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

if u have the ring of death(three red lights) on ur xbox der is a way to fix it..disconnect the HDD, lay 1 thick towel on the floor and put the 360 on it(with the power supply connected)..cover it up with more towels and then turn it on and leave it for 15 mins..then turn it off, take it out of the towels, lay it on the floor and let it cool for 30 mins..den turn it on and…voila!the red rings are gone!!
hope this helped anyone, if it did contact me at peterpaul91@hotmail.com

2 xbox’s, two red rings of death. 1st breaks down in 4 months, so the warranty covered that and I received a new one from Microsoft for free. 11 months later the 2nd one got the red lights. Well, now I’m outside of the warranty so they want $140. I was able to argue down to $70 but while waiting for the box I’m still not sure I will pay to have it fixed. Maybe it’s a blessing. Sucks up too much of my time when it is working. I could get reaquainted with my family.
