Repair Xbox 360 – 3 Red Lights
James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.
If you have this problem try this simple fix:
1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run "Initial Setup" under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.
*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don't want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

1. With all the consumer complaints, how come no government agency is doing anything?
2.How come the media, television, radio, newspapers, not telling the story?
3. How come the consumer protection agency is not doing a thing to help us, the consumers who are getting the shaft?
I think because MICROSOFT has all the money! What do you think?
I’VE HAD MY XBOX 360 CONSOLE SINCE THE DAY IT CAME OUT. I WAITED 13 HOURS JUST TO GET IT. TODAYS MY BIRTHDAY AND I GOT A TON OF THINGS FOR IT. I TURN IT ON AFTER JUST PLAYING IT NOT EVEN TWO HOURS AGO AND I HAD THE 3 RED LIGHTS. THIS IS BS. CS TOLD ME MY CONSOLE WAS OUT OF DATE AND I HAD TO PAY $140 JUST TO GET IT FIXED. MICROSOFT MADE MY B-DAY SUK SO BAD. GOT TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS WORTH OF STUFF TODAY AND TURN ON THE XBOX JUS TO SEE I CANT USE NONE OF IT.
I have the same 3 red light problem with my xbox 360. they told me i had to pay $140 to get it fixed. I’m gonna tell you right now i am paying 0. Don’t say you will pay the 140$. I told them if you don’t pay for my 360, I will call you everyday for 3 times a day until you pay for my 360
I got the 360 at launch day. The 3 red lights destroyed my xbox yesterday. Called microsoft that said they would repair it for free because they extended the warrenty on 360s to 2 years. My advice dont listen to their bull, and make them fix it for free!
on my sons 360 it had 3 flashing lights after reading about this problem with no fix online i could find i noticed the power suply light is orange also so this is a power related problem i took my power suply and pluged it in still 3 red lights i tilted the 360 backwards and noticed it started to boot i now know where u plug the power suply into the xbox it is faulty not the 360 its self i took it apart and fixed it so it was back inline and it now works microsoft is charging money to turn a few screws :o/

I bought my Xbox 360 on Dec 26 with a few gift cards I got for christmas. I’ve been playing it avidly for a close to 6 months. Recently with shadowrun I started getting freeze ups, tonight it froze up, screen was checkered and pixelated. I rebooted, per usual and received the 3 rings of death. Like most, I get no picture when I boot my box now. Seems a common problem. Wish I would have read this board before I bought it, would have just waited for a PS3 or Wii.
My Xbox360 Core System has been in my possession since the launch date and I was finally graced with the Three Rings of Death. This could not have occured at a worst time. Just when I maxed out my Forza MS Infiniti G35. By Gods Blessing I hope to find a fix on the web. This is not good MS.

Hmmm……… i say MS should make the repairs free since they are the ones selling us faulty hardware! About three months ago i experienced the “Ring of Death” and i panicked. I rushed over to my 360 and turned the power off and prayed. I turned it back on and voila it works like magic now. I havent had that problem til about 2 months later in which it did the same thing. I worked my magic finger and it now plays. But now today me and cousin were about to play GH2 on HIS 360 and there it was! I pressed the power button but alas my luck has failed and it remained. I then tried airing it now and now my cousins 360 plays but only for a verrry verrry short time(5 min. at the most) because it now freezes and makes weird noises. I feel your pain ppl even though its not my 360. I hope the same doesnt happen to mine……..
