Xbox 360 Three Red Light Repair

James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.

If you have this problem try this simple fix:

1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run “Initial Setup” under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.

*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don’t want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

I got mine 2 days ago, opened it today and played on ninty nine nights, about half an hour it froze, switch it off then turn back on, three red lights, the upper - right wasnt flashing. Man only half hour it froze up on me.
I am really going to exchange it or get my money back, might as well spend it on something useful, and not a craped out machine >.

Same thing just happend to me, but i had bought the extended coverage for 40 bucks or whatever it was when i first got it, im covered till 2008. Dont know why more people didnt sign up for the extended warranty, i mean its already more than paid for itself.

WHAT THE *(&@#. bought my xbox back in december 2005. worked FINE up until 2 days ago..started freezing up on hitman: bloodmoney. 3 red lights, won’t boot up, tried all the lame, worthless troubleshooting solutions which MS KNOWS doesn’t work. called CS and got the same BS story, and the punk a** CS rep had the nerve to tell me, ‘well, at least it’s cheaper than buying a new xbox, isn’t it. BUT once it’s fixed, you can purchase the extended warranty for an additional $60–’ CLICK

bought mine in may, stopped working about two days ago after playing enchanted arms for about 2 hours it froze.
probably nothing…boy was i wrong.
now everytime i turn it on 3 red lights or able to play for 10 minutes before it froze again. restart would lead to either of those problems.

4 months and some odd days later I spent 450 bucks for a blinking paper weight.

CS had the gall to charge me another 130 for a somebodys broken xbox.

my ps2 is 3 years old and working fine, my xbox1 is 2 years and working fine

filed a complaint at better business bureau:

filed another complaint at
consumeraffairs.com

thanks for the crappy POS.
