Repair Xbox 360 – 3 Red Lights
James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.
If you have this problem try this simple fix:
1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run "Initial Setup" under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.
*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don't want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

Seriously, I bought mine second hand and after a week it stopped working.

But after a week the problem came a again and I couldn’t make it work.
This is definitely a cause for a class action. Who’s with me?
I’ve had my Xbox since December of last year. I got it on Christmas and I am very happy with it. No problems or anything. I just wanted to say that anyone and everyone that finds this page should send it to Microsoft. I just spent half an haour reading these postings and I’m not even a quarter of the way through. If like a hundred people or more sent this to Microsoft, they would have to do something. Also, send it to the Better Business Bureau.

now its almost june and it just stopped working
got ebgames 1 year warranty for $40 hopefully they dont screw me over and weasle out of the deal, i payed $40 for a new replacement and i better get one
they better let me keep my hardrive
had mine for not even 6 months. i rarely play it as well. and today when i’m bout to watch a dvd, i turn it on and bang – 3 rings of red light. i haven’t even used the 360 for a while.
I got my 360 in January 2 2007. I had the red light problem and I did the towel threory and it work but it was only for a while. I tried it again and also what this sites says to do and it work out great. It was on for 10 hours straight and I have had no problems since. It seems to be back to normal. I will know for a fact if that it is back to normal if I will turn on tomorrow.
I got my 360 on release day here in the US and never had any problems with it until today I cut it on to finish MUA then 3 fing red lights.My warranty is expired and it’s soft modded also(case) so I’m F’ed in the A.I tried the towel trick twice and nothing worked it’s error code 0020 so now I’m gonna bust it open and check it out I’ll report later
I got my xbox 360 some time in september and it worked fine even with long playing time not even a freeze but now it may and i tern it on one day and the three red lights of death came on.I cant xbox and they sending me a box and reparing it for free hope nothing happens to the second one.
i just called xbox support and now it is 139.99$ to get it repaired which i found is nothing but BS we should get it repaired for free
I just got home from a hard-days work to find the three rings of death, After just purchasing 3 new games last weekend. i’m disgusted.
