Repair Xbox 360 – 3 Red Lights
James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.
If you have this problem try this simple fix:
1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run "Initial Setup" under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.
*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don't want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

hey everyone well i got the 3 red lights on my old 360 had it for about a year and a half or so maybe more anyways sendin it in was outta the question since it was out of warranty of course..and soft modded so yea..i just re-opened it double checked connections on my drive/power cables on the board closed it back up and it started working again just wanted to let everyone know my way of fixin it..hope it helps anyone out!
Contact the Attourney General of your state if in the US. This person can start a file and see how many complaints from that state. Plus they will contact MS that there has been a complanint filed in that state.
Might get the ball rolling.
My son’s died yesterday. Was bought in December ‘05 very early. Hope all goes well with mine and others.

Wll after 3 xbox 360s that all froze burned smoked blinked lights at me. I think its time too cut my loses.
I am returning this peace of trash and selling all the stuff i bought for it.
and going back too my loyal ps2 that doesnt burn every 2 months.

The bottom line is that MS wanted to be the first to put out a better system, also knowing that by doing so they will make millions of dollars from the public, the so called “glitches” “system failures” 3 red flashing lights etc is not that major to them because they know (MS) that they can find a remedy “later” after making so much money from us. for them it’s like ” put the the system out now, it a race with Sony, Nintendo, as long as it out first we’re on top, we’ll worry about the other issues later after we have made all of our millions of dollars.” and that’s not only on the console. the majority ( 70%) of video game console profits come from accessories not from the actual multimillion dollar making console. Just as we play their games, Sony, Nintendo, MS play their own game, it’s called ” who’s on top” “who’s making more profits” “who’s getting the better exclusive games” and we the public eat it up, because yes they do put out great systems and the video graphics games are so visually enahnced we are caught out there and wind up spending millions upon millions of dollars, the gaming industry is a multi BILLION dollar industry. who cares if “they” put out a few systems that will not stand up to their potential, we can always replace them, we have plenty of parts. as for the inconvienience to their loyal gamers.. “they’ll get over it” as long as we replace or fix the issue. it’s not like they all have the money to dish out and buy a new system especially after buying so many of our games and accessories. also they love when the warranty expires, that’s an extra multimillion dollar profit, so be sure to send in your warranties, because they will tell you they can not help you (for free) if you never sent it in or registered your console online.

Bought mine in September 2006, just did an update yesterday, hadn’t played in over a month, and it froze up, 3 ring of death, i’m so pissed, there goes my dvd player, since i gave my other 2 away, but support is taking care of it for free, btw my brothers and friend have been through 5 x-boxes in the last year, i still can’t believe MS still produces junk
this suxs they cost like 700$ to bye it and to repair it it proble cost like 500$ im sewing
