Repair Xbox 360 – 3 Red Lights
James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.
If you have this problem try this simple fix:
1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run "Initial Setup" under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.
*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don't want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

has anyone tried buying a new 360, swapping the new one with the old one (that doesnt work), switching the serial number stickers, and taking it back and say you just dont want it…then have a brand new 360 ? i know walmart is pretty lax on their return policy so let me know if anyone has tried it and if it has worked?

Hahaha! Suckers! I have your money, and I don’t care if your XBox 360 works or not. Actually, I hope it breaks so you have to buy ANOTHER brand new one for $479 so you won’t feel so bad for being stupid enough to buy over ANOTHER $200 in accessories and over ANOTHER $300 in games. Hurry up, and send me your money. Daddy needs a new yacht.

Alas I have come across the 3 red lights of death. Up until now I have only thought of them as an urban legend. At least my 360 was still under warranty so microsoft will fix it for free. But now I cant play for a month till I get it back, and spider-man 3 comes out tommorow AHHHH!!! Anyway,my friends just crapped out too 2 days after the warranty was up, mine 3 days before. Is this a coincidence that the 360′s are failing at the end of their warranty’s or is microsoft (&*$%^$ us all over.
