Repair Xbox 360 – 3 Red Lights
James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.
If you have this problem try this simple fix:
1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run "Initial Setup" under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.
*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don't want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

I just tried this on my xbox with three red lights. Guess what. IT WORKED Hallelujah!
i bought two x box 360 at xmas for my boys and one totaly died never worked since the other froze and has cracked each game plyed each time its froze its cracked the disc the 360 were dear enough its wrecked two hundred pounds woth of games the heat off them is dangerous cant find my reciepts and i will not let this go my boys will get replacments as i will battle for my rights both of them have now gone back to there psp i am appalled by this product
Ive tried that towel trick, stupid yes, but it actually worked, idont know how long for though. also i usually have my console upright, its now upsidedown on top of its hard drive, dont know if this makes a difference, but i dont want to go moving it about just in case.
Any One else had problems with lost planet?

I bought a XBOX 360 the first day it came out and everything was fine for a whole year, but the the 3 red lights came on the ring of light. I got it repaired and everything was fine again until yesterday. The same problem happened again.

yeah i got mine in december for christmas and of course i played it when ever i could, but when i get back from not playing it all springbreak it gives me the ring of doom and im wondering if i can send it too microsoft for them to fix for free, since its still in its warrent?
we had the 3 red lights on the ring but i let my uncle look at it and all he did is take out the hard drive unplug the scart lead and the shake hard drive and put it back in the plugged scart back and it worked

Hi, I like pie. Hi. If the 3 lights are on you should probably unplug everything and let everything cool off then plug the stuff in. Also you shouldn’t plug your xbox 360 in a surge protector. If this dosen’t work you should probably get it fix or exchange it for a new one. Okay. Bye.
