Xbox 360 Three Red Light Repair

James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.

If you have this problem try this simple fix:

1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run "Initial Setup" under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.

*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don't want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

This is the second time in 14 months that my 360 has died (three red lights) and M.S. wants $169 canadian to repair it. This is a joke, they build a crappy product and expect the consumer to keep paying to have it repaired. When I called the support line i asked to speak to the manger and he told me that the best he could do is to cut the price in half. I am currently seeking to go as high as i can and not stop bugging them. Out of pricapal i will not pay a penny to have it repaired. I hope every one with this problem will do the same if I can find a phone number i will post it here.

I stood in the pouring rain, at 4am, outside of Target, the second day after the launch of the xbox 360.

95 percent of the time I play my system alone, so it wasnt abused at all. At the end of March 2007, I got the flashing red lights. I wrapped it in a towel like it told me on one of the trouble shooting sites and you know what? It worked. I was so happy i didnt have to send it in for service, then four days later, the flashing red lights was back. I did the towel thing again, allowing it to sit for at least 30 mins while on, and it played for the rest of the day. Now, it seems like the xbox360 is immune to the tricked i used and now my gameplay freezes within 5 mins of kickoff on my brand new NCAA 200 football. I will never ever, buy another x box360, im about to trade it in towards a PS3. At times i wish i had kept my old Xbox, that froze a few times but it wasnt serious as the 360.
If anybody can help me, email me at derrik99shirley@yahoo.com
