Repair Xbox 360 – 3 Red Lights
James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.
If you have this problem try this simple fix:
1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run "Initial Setup" under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.
*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don't want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

Yeah my xbox 360 froze during Call of Duty 3 and I called customer service and asked how to fix it and they said i had to get it repaired, for me it was free and i get it back in a week or so, but it still sucks I can’t play it and I just got call of Duty 3 and now i can’t play it for a whole freaking week!
tryed towel trick xbox is working for now
Joyce. I lost my receipt will the place I bought it from have a copy of the xbox 360 reg number. Also my box went back to Microsoft previously for an overheating problem, so what happens if they changed the box
Damn, this problem is an epidemic. We gotta do something. First, I got the 1 flashing red light, saying I had to contact customer support. I ignpored it until I saw it again and called them. They said it was a hardware problem and I needed to get it fixed, but is still worked. Now I get the 3 lights of death and I am not paying to fix it. Microsoft knows they put out a piece of crap, just like th ast XBOX. I went through 3 of those and I’ll be damned if I go through 3 360’s. Not out of my pocket anyway.
i think i might be the winner…maybe an hour of gameplay….at most 2hours….and then…you guessed it…the flashing red lights of death! A brand new machine just out the box and it took longer to unwrap it then it did to malfunction. Makes windows ME look like the best OS ever.
mine just died, 3 days after 1 year, owned almost every console since atari 2600 never had a problem. bad karma to bill gates
i feal lucky most people didnt last a month mine lasted like 10 =P. but i think it is $&@#ed up how this happend to so many people
I’ve had the 360 for about 4 months now and I finally got the ring of death. Luckily I purchased a product replacement plan. You can believe that I am taking this junk back to the store today (only to recieve a shinier piece of junk).
im pretty pissed off cause this is the 2nd time i got the 3lights. ive already sent it in and got a new one now its messed up all over again and i just got guitar heroes. i barely even use my xbox and it still gets screwed on me what terrible production
I got my 360 on launch date and 3 weeks ago, after the machine being on for about 15 minutes the picture shut off and the dreaded lights appeared. I am still waiting for the courier to collect after paying £80 for MS to repair it outside of warrantee, but the machine is now just a very expensive paperweight..
