Repair Xbox 360 – 3 Red Lights
James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.
If you have this problem try this simple fix:
1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run "Initial Setup" under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.
*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don't want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

tried the towel thing and nope nowt happened,,,i think the heat sunc fan is broke,,,i dont hear it when i switch it on so its boxed and goin for repair tommorow (RAGEIN)
hi put towel round whole thing for have an hour while it was on of course let it heat up and then turned if off. took the towel off and switched on it is now working. when the red lights came on the fan was not working it is now this is def worth a try we tried every thing else but didint want to pay repair fee as people are getting it fixed three times and more. lets see how long it works for. will let know if goes wrong.

Definitely never leave it on for an hour with the towel.. very dangerous only 10 to 15 minutes max.
hey guys…stacey and ragein …the towel thing wouldnt save u …its just a temporary process … so…youll get it fixed it the end anyway … and for the other people…..i wanna ask ya all…who uses his xbox 360 for something else beside gaming ( mp3 music , dvd movies , etc ) and who didnt….that will help me figure out something…cause mine broke after i used my flash memory…and my flash memory is not working now too,,,is it a hardware or software problem??,,thatll say….thanx ..and waiting for answers
ok if your xbox360 is out of its warranty and its cheaper to buy another than pay to get it fixed listen up. the ring of death (3 flashing red lights) is mostly caused by the soldering of the CPU to the mother board expanding and cracking. this can be fixed by going to http://www.360resin.com the stuff costs $24.50 and the website shows you how to use it. worked on mine and the 4 units i have now fixed and sold on ebay.
Dam, I hat MS.. My son’s XBOX 360 is steadly going down hill. The towel tricked worked for awhile. It is now only working for 5 minutes at a time. I guess I will take it apart and try the heat gun trick now. I will let everyone know how it worked. OH, one more thing … My wift stood ing the rain four 6 hours when it first came out, which make it an 2005 model. I have tried to get it fixed for free … nothing …. MS. is strick … one year only .. @#&* … This should be a learning experience for my 14 year old son …. I am never getting a MS. Product again … Not even VISTA … I hope you hear this BILL!!!! All my existing computers are going LINUX.
I have had a pleasant experience with my new xbox for about 8 months. I then moved and took about 3 weeks off then I go back to my system to play and wala the three red lights. I know that I don’t abuse systems because I had an 1980s Nintendo for 16 years without a single problem. This system should be recalled and this web page could make a legal argument. This is very sad.
is mocrosoft gonna leave us complain like this ?? dont they have respect to thier customrs ??what r we should learn from this??? one thing .. sony is the solution…u should never even bye a towel with microsofts logo on it….thats it….god bless us all
i have the 3 red light issue too, and to b honest i dont think xbox CS care…i sent them a complaint saying i tried all the repair methods and asked for diffrent advice and what did they do? they gave me repair advice after i told them not to. Ive been hearing it costs to get it repaired and thats just an outrage. PPL y get it repaired when in a few weeks its going to break again? i agree we should start a petition. DONT LET BILL GATES GET AWAY WITH THIS!
Mt friend had the 3 red light error thing happen to him tto. he wrapped his 360 in a towel and left it on for half an hour. then he took off the towel and restarted it. it worked. i dont know if this will work for all the other people who try it but its worth a try, isnt it?
