Repair Xbox 360 - 3 Red Lights
James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.
If you have this problem try this simple fix:
1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run “Initial Setup” under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.
*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don’t want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

Everyone with the 3 lights of death should e-mail customer service every day demanding that their console be fixed for free.

This blows. I am having the same problem and no one will give me any help except for telling me to send in 130 dollars and it’s not going to happen. I’m going to complain to the bbb and you all should too. This is happening way to much for us to sit back and let this go on. I will be fighting this everyday and telling everyone I know and see that Microsoft sucks and doesn’t need any business from us. Let me know if any of you complain to the bbb………..Later

I had my XBOX for 1 month and a half and now my XBOX starts flashing 3 red lights. Just purchased Madden 07 and I cant even enjoy it.Microsoft told me they will send me a box and they will repair it, but after hearing so many stories i think when it comes back i’ll just sell it and get myself a PLAYSTATION 3.

got mine at launch waited in line for hours hehehe really dumb works ok i start playing dead rising freezes comes back 3 lights of death. now i have alot of spending money but i will not send them more for a repair out of principal. We all shouldve realised when they were only willing to warrantee it for 6mo it was a total piece i may buy a sony but this has scared me back onto pc for a while pc and pc gaming is still the cutting edge and despite hardware problems when you buy a hot PC it lasts!!ps i will NEVER buy another MS product i am 33.

Consumer FRAUD!!!!! Microsoft should do a recall, because there is no way that this many systems could be defective. Ironic how Microsoft claimed that at launch each 360 cost them about $150 out of their own pockets. I think they made a crap product and decided that this was the best way to get their money back out of it. I had no problems ever until I bought Madden 07. Then it froze, now I can’t play anything. To me I find it funny how last month my warranty ended and here it is breaking now! I have a feeling that they started putting out these newer games to make the BOX work harder causing the hardware failure. I called and complained, got the old $130 to fix it. She basically came out and said that Madden killed my system, and I said then Microsoft should replace my system. So they were gonna come down to $100 to fix it. I hung up on them. Complain to whoever it takes. Call Better Business, because Microsoft knows there is a problem yet they keep pumpin out the crap machines!

mutiny! i think i contracted the dreaded red ring disease from “madden 07″ like tom was saying. i havnt had a problem with it freezing ever since “need for speed.” maybe its a coincidence that they are both EA games. i have heard that conspiracy theory b4. might be something to it….down with xbox……

Does anyone think maybe this is coming from there latest Xbox live update? Maybe a virus on the LIVE network? It is basically A computer… I had the same problem as everone here. I was playinf Saints Row for about a total of 8 hours for two days and the system froze up and then came the red lights. @ first GRAW played then went back to Saints Row, and red lights again. I went back and forth now it wont even boot past or even to the logo screen.

It’s not an update problem. It’s a microsoft problem. My system froze up on me with Hitman Blood Money. My friends froze up on him with King Kong.Microsoft just didnt test the systems enough. The end result is they just wanted to beat PS3 to the start and now we are all paying the price.Microsoft should just recall all the defaulted machines and give us and option if we want our money back or a new system.
