Repair Xbox 360 – 3 Red Lights
James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.
If you have this problem try this simple fix:
1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run "Initial Setup" under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.
*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don't want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

I am seding my xbox 360 in for the third time because of the flashing red light problem. THis is *$*%)^!!! Microsoft has done nthing to fix the problem. The system runs on xp media player and they are using a different config.. than the regular xbox. I think the main problem is the flash memory gets messed up somehow. I am a PC gamer and I got this for my son. I wish I could get my money back and just build him a new rig..

I bought Nyko’s (or whatever the hell they’re called) Intercooler for my first Xbox 360, the one that plugs in the back and has 3 additional fans in it. It didn’t do a damn bit of good for either of the ‘boxes I’ve owned. It was on the first one for a couple of months, and the second one only lasted 3 weeks. I’ll probably plug it into the third one too, when they finally friggin’ send it, because it can’t hurt, but it doesn’t seem to offer any substantive help, either.
