Repair Xbox 360 – 3 Red Lights
James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.
If you have this problem try this simple fix:
1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run "Initial Setup" under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.
*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don't want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

Madden is the thing to watch out for. i played my box for 3 months solid no problems for a week now it started freezing.. now the lights of death. i then called 4my xbox and they say i have to pay the 139.90 which is outrageous because all of you guys are having the same problems which means there is a definite major malfunction. and for a major company like ms to not look at this and frown is outrageous!

This is what I did…….I turned on the XBox and then pressed and held the synch button in front of the 360……When holding the button I pressed the disc open button and I switched my ring of death lights around…..It went from 3 to 2 to 1. I left it on 1 where it is in the upper left quadrant…..Then I turned back on the XBox and it worked so far….I still haven’t played any games yet….Afraid it will freeze I will let you guys know whats up but please try my above idea and let me know if it works for you…..Also does anybody have a cooler fan on there 360? Is it really worth buying?

All I did was turn on the 360 and then press and hold the synch button in the front of the 360 because nothign came on the screen of my TV. While holding the synch button I pressed the disc tray button and the lights moved around the quadrant from 3, 2, to 1……Try that and let me know if it works….It seemed to work for me…
