Repair Xbox 360 – 3 Red Lights
James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.
If you have this problem try this simple fix:
1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run "Initial Setup" under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.
*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don't want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

I had my system for less than 2 days before it started getting the 3 red lights. Luckily i got it from costco and with their liberal return policy, i will be able to return it whenever i want, even if this happens a year down the road. my point: buy your &*%@ from Costco, they back their products up 100%.

OMG this stupid &*@$…..Well ummmmm I did the stupid support thing and it cost 140 to send in….So I been reading and reading about this problem…..I been playing alot of Gears lately also maybe thats why Im having this problem….But just now I went to turn on the XBox and I pressed the synch button in the front of the XBox then it went from the 3 rings of death to just one ring of death……….The ring that was still red was the upper left one which looked like a controller was in sync…..I got mad and turned off the XBox and then quickly turned it back on……Green lights OMG……I turned it off and turned it back on to make sure I wasn’t imagining things…….And it turned on properly and I turned it back off…..Going to see if it works tomorrow….I will keep you guys updated…………
