Repair Xbox 360 – 3 Red Lights
James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.
If you have this problem try this simple fix:
1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run "Initial Setup" under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.
*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don't want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

I turned on my 4.5 month old 360 at 8pm and got the 3 flashing red lights. I called GameStop at 8:15 and was told to bring it in for exchange since I purchase their $40.00 warranty. 45 minutes later I had everything back the way it was and they let me keep my old hard drive!!!

Played GOW for 3 days and it broke (3 red lights) but there was also an update. I suspect GOW broke it but can’t be sure. At first the screen locked up more and more frequently with GOW then with oblivion and finally it gave up today and won’t even play pro evo 6. The (*&^@$.
