Repair Xbox 360 – 3 Red Lights
James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.
If you have this problem try this simple fix:
1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run "Initial Setup" under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.
*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don't want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

I am so pissed off. I was playing Saints Row last night at like 4 in the morning, and a power outage occurs. So, after a half an hour of no power, it returned. I turn on my 360, and yes, the dreaded 3 red lights show up. I have no picture, i cannot go to dashboard..I cannot do anything…Worst part is, Saints Row is still trapped in my system…Any advice?? I don’t want to ship it off….email me at andrew_weymes@hotmail.com

The Xbox 360 is a piece of crap. IT SUCKS! We pay 400 for it and then get a 3 month warranty. We need to get a longer warranty.

I don’t understand why the won’t stand behind their product. it should at least be a year for warranty. i got mine back in april, and now it has these stupid red lights. the amount of money on games and xbox live i’ve spent is stupid. now i can’t even use any of it because of a faulty product that cost 500 bucks.

I’ve had the three red lights problem several times with my 360, but it has always solved itself by reconnecting the box to its own (and GROUNDED) socket.

I have had my 360 for 7 months and have just had the 3 red light problem. It appears to be a problem with the dvd drive. When the unit is sitting up the drive will not open and the 3 red lights are present. When i lay it flat the problem goes away. I also have moved to it to its own socket however the problem returned. It has only stayed away after laying it flat. Hopes this helps.

Add Me To The List Of Xbox360 3 Rings of Death Victims. Called in for repair with my console a couple months out of warranty. First offer was $139.90 & I pay the freight to the repair facility and get free freight returned. I complained and then was offered a 25% discount bringing the total to $104.93 and Free Freight Both Ways. I then saw how one message on this board said they paid $65. I complained some more and went through 2 supervisors. I could not get them down to the $65 and after over an hour on the phone I was over it. They did however throw in a Gift Game (Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, or Gotham Racing 3) I chose PDZ.
Recap:
1st Call: $139.90 & outbound Freight to repair.
2nd Level of Complaint: 25% Discount & Free Freight Both Ways.
3rd Level of Complaint: 25% Discount, Free Freight Both ways & Gift Game.
Now I will be returning the Gift Game to Walmart in exchange for Gears of War, so in the end I will pay approx, $75 to have my 360 Repaired and to get Gears of War.
What a pain. I like the 360 dont get me wrong, but unless something major is wrong with the PS3, I’m heading back over to the Black Side and leaving my 360 alone unless to play GOW (which evidently only takes 5 hours to beat) & Halo 2/3 and utilizing the PS3 to do all the fancy stuff. MS can take their HDDVD and shove it up their A$$!
