Repair Xbox 360 – 3 Red Lights
James at joystiq fixed his own 360 that was flashing three red lights, which indicates an internal error.
If you have this problem try this simple fix:
1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run "Initial Setup" under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.
*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don't want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

you would think that microsoft would be doing something about this by now. It makes me feel very angry towards them for letting something like this continue. It was probably a planned scheme to make more money. So sad.

Nothing different here. I bought this X-Box 360 3 weeks ago, thinking that Microsoft fixed the glitches in this system, since I have a later generation unit (02/28/2006 MFR Date), but just today I got the 3 blinking red lights. For the life of me, I can’t even get the intro screen on my TV. So I called Microsoft today and spoke to a ESL individual. After experiencing the difficulties of a language barrier, I was told to send in my unit to TX. He gave me a Service Request ID, and that was that. He mentioned that all the repairs would be free and that all I had to do was pay the one time shipping fees to the Repair Center. If any of you reading this wants to file a mass complaint or a law suit, I’m in, tell me where to sign. It seems that we’ve all been fooled into believing that we’ve all purchased an at least decent product from an at least decent company. I wonder if I’ll see anyone mailing their units out to the Repair Center at the Post Office tomorrow…

I went to turn on my 360 and it would not start up, just the red lights. I called customer support and they wanted 160 dollars. My cousin got his fixed for free so he told me to ask for the guy that he talked to. I called and asked for tyler and he said they would fix it for free. I guess just call and ask for somebody named tyler. It still sucks because now i dont get to play gears of war the day it comes out.

I bought my 360 on the launch date, and all was fine until this morning when I was playing table tennis. It just froze on me, so i turned it off and on again. Froze again. After a few more times of doing this I guess it just gave up and started flashing me the 3 red rings. Called customer support and they’re repairing it for free, but I had to pay $17.50 to ship it to them. This is BS, obviously there is a major manufacturing defect here since about half of 360 owners have had their console break. The other half will probably break within the next year. MS sucks.

Haha… Oh man. In my last post I said, “I wonder if I’ll see anyone mailing their units out to the Repair Center at the Post Office tomorrow…”, I didn’t run into anyone, but the UPS store told me that they’ve seen many a 360′s pass through their storefront. In fact, the lady at the UPS store told me that she handled 4 X-Box 360′s since Monday (mine being the 5th in 3 days), all of them being sent to the Repair Center. She said, “South International Parkway in McAllen, Texas right?” I couldn’t help but laugh. This sucks man. Very sad and disappointing on Microsoft’s part. Wow.

I had my 360 since January, and it got the Red Ring of Death in September. Since my warranty was up, I did some research and came across http://www.imxbox.com and decided to send it in. Got is back just in time for NBA Live 2007 and haven’t had an issue since! I would definitely recommend checking them out if you’re having the Red Ring of Death (or any issue) and you’re past warranty.

Interesting. I have not had my xbox 360 show the three red light of doom. I’am just here to tell you all that when the xbox 360 console shows up the three red light it is an internal software or hardware problem. You cannot fix it yourself because microsoft had made the xbox 360 software and hardware find the internal problem and then the console itself lock’s the internal mallfunction down. So it will not futher damage the system falier. call (1800-4myxbox)or go to xbox.com .
