Dead or Alive 4 Reviews

Dead or Alive 4 is the newest release for the 360. Actually, it's the only title to have been released since the console's launch.

Here are 5 of the best reviews I could find for the 4th installment of the Dead or Alive series:

IGN - 9.0
DOA4 is a move in the right direction for the series in the long run, even if, in the short run, the changes to the counter system, blocks, throws and the ground game are a little annoying at first. The fighting is now deeper and more sophisticated, and while it may not seem so at first, there is a solution to every attack. For instance, if you see the warthog driving toward you in Gambler's Paradise, you can jump it. You can still counter nearly everything, and the ground game and the use of the environment is much greater. DOA4's online mode is also a tremendous improvement, giving the series another layer of play that should take off and breathe new life into the series. The game is also incredibly funny, too. The breadth of game endings is vast, and some are incredibly hilarious (Zack and Kasumi for starters).

Is DOA4 the best game in the series? Yes. Absolutely. It's taken everything its ever done right and added to it more than we'd ever expect. Is it still largely the same DOA brand of gaming? Yes, but people who merely dabble in the series will never really see the advancements the game has made over previous installments, and that's a shame. It's faster, tighter, more balanced than past episodes, and has the legs to offer tons of replay value for veterans and newbies alike online. Does it move the genre forward? To that we say "no," not any more than it already had, really. It's still "just" a fighting game, albeit an incredibly polished and finessed fighting game, but it won't open your eyes to things you've never seen before. It will bring the fighting game community together, however, thanks to its online functionality, and that's a good thing. It's a fitting end to this chapter in the series' life and is testament to Team NINJA's relentless drive for perfection. Review

GamePro - 5.0/5
If you already have an Xbox 360, do yourself a favor and grab Dead or Alive 4. Besides just being a faster and more enjoyable experience overall, the inclusion of some truly unique online features should have you glued to your shiny new console for hours. While it would have been nice to see some new modes (Survival, Tag, and Sparring are starting to get really old), Dead or Alive 4 is still hands-down the best installment in the series yet, and dare we say, maybe one of the best fighting games out there. GameZone - 9.3
I love the Dead of Alive series; it is one of my favorite fighting games to play, especially against friends. Like I said earlier, this is one of the games I was purchasing an Xbox 360 for, especially at launch. Even though this game didn?t make it on launch day, this is still one of the best fighting games I have played in a while. With over 45 achievements to collect and never-ending fighting matches online, you will not run out of things to do in this game for a long time. Review

GameDaily - 4.5/5
If you're a casual fighting game fan who has always liked Dead or Alive for its easy, pick up and play aspect, you'll love DOA4. If you're a hardcore fighting game fan who has always thought the DOA series was for the casuals, you'll love DOA4. If you've had an Xbox 360 for a month and are tired of your launch games, you'll love DOA4. If you're a Halo fan and want to beat some booty with a Spartan, you'll love DOA4. Are you starting to see a trend here? DOA4 is so close to being flawless it's unbelievable. Review
