Difference Between Xbox 360 Core and Xbox 360 “Preimum”

The Xbox 360 is available in two flavors, regular and lite. The Maniac sez, get a "Premium" 360 with all the goodies. You'll be glad you did.

The Xbox 360 "Premium"

The main Xbox kit, is really just "Xbox 360." It has gained the "premium" name by the public, in order to easily tell the difference.

It also comes in a white box, easy to spot for all 360 maniacs. This is the one you want to see Santa bringing down the chimney.

The Xbox 360 sells for $399.00 and includes the following:

Console
Detachable hard drive (20 GB)
2.4 GHz Wireless Controller
Xbox-Live Headset
Component HD-AV cable
Xbox Live Silver membership
One month limited trial membership for Xbox Live Gold
Ethernet cable
Media Remote

The Xbox 360 Core System

The core system is just what the name says, the basic core console. This unit comes in the green box.

The Core System sells for $299 and includes:
Console
Wired Controller with 9ft break-away cable
Standard AV cable
Xbox Live Silver membership
One month limited trial membership for Xbox Live Gold

That's it!

So, if you get the green box (core system), you get no wireless on the controller, no hard drive, no xbox live headset, no ethernet cable and no media remote.

The biggest difference here, is the hard drive. Why? Cuz you need it or a memory unit to save games. The main reason though, is you need it to play your old original xbox games in their new widescreen High Definition glory.

Not worried about old games? Couldn't care less about wireless controllers? Don't have an hdtv? Not worried about save games? (huh?) You won't be playing xbox live? The core system might be for you, but if you answered no to all of these questions, why have a 360 in the first place?

The harddrive alone sells for $100. Why not pony it up to start with, and get the rest for no additional bucks?

Go for the white box, you'll be better off.

Hey you Dink, Dont PUBLISH PRICES IF YOU KNOW THERE GONNA BE DIFFRENT IN CERTAIN AREAS. I WENT DOWN TO FUTURE SHOP AND ONLY HAD 400 DOLLARS AND I ASKED FOR A PREMIUM. IM CANADIAN SO WRITE ALL THE PRICES OR BE MORE SPACIFIC!

Will the core system work with an HD ready tv?

  3. Bobby, you must have the Hard Drive to play original xbox games. Emulators are stored on the HD.

Ty: Dink eh? Sorry, the prices stated on this site are for real money. (Curious, do you take all internet prices to be in CDN currency?)

Alan, the Core system does NOT come with the HD cables like the Premium does. You can use the Core (Standard Def) cables on an HD TV, but you won’t get an HD signal. If you have HD, that’s another reason to get the premium.

hey, its about to be christmas and im having a hard time trying to find out what i want… we have hd-tv, and im thinking of getting xbox live (Gold), so i should get premium? or buy the things i need with core? which would be cheaper?

this is all good talk but at the end of the day i wana clarify 1 thing….a 360 is a 360 it saves me a lot of money compared 2 when i constantly upgrade my pc to meet sketchy “graphic upgrades” on pc games which make u buy a frakin graphics card which costs the amount of a 360 premium plus a little xtra!!!!catch my drift…Oh n Sony PS3 is such a joke even the head of sales for Sony in the UK quit 3 weeks before the launch..He even knew….Enjoy 360 n get ready 4 720 soon 2 come.no joke!cheers

But where is the best deal for a premium xbox?

  9. Dave says:

Does anyone know “for sure” if you can take a core 360 and install a 2.5″ HDD into it? say from a laptop. If you can this has to be good, because you can pick up laptop drives for peanuts – I’m sure there must be a way to do it. I’ll keep looking for the answer in the meantime.

I understand the 360 uses a sata HDD interface, so the HDD would have to have a usb interface as oppose to stnadard IDE – that’s all I managed to find out thus far

    Thanx.

  10. You cannot just install a regular HD to an Xbox 360. You need the Microsoft part.
